Partly Human: Upper Part Human/Human with animal head/Human with some animal parts; Non-human

Seems like there should be more of these, but this is a collection of I think most of the pre-renaissance mythical locations that were actually theorized to exist. The list changes as we get into the renaissance, I think - as the age of exploration begins and some of these disappear but new ones get added.

Seems to jibe with Barthes' ideas about the establishment of myth-structure in the modern era - that repetition on a mass scale perpetuates belief until that belief is instantiated unconsciously and no longer even recognized as such.

Leah's totally right. The Gefion Fountain should rightly be the piece of decorative Copenhagen that gets decapitated every other week, instead of that pissant little mermaid thingy. Section 5 of the Ynglinga saga has more on Gefion.
