When Faith Moves Mountains

"On April 11th 2002, 500 volunteers were called in order to form a line to move a sand dune situated in the surroundings of the city of Lima. This human comb progressed pushing forward a certain quantity of sand with shovels in order to move the dune from its original position. The actual displacement was of an infinitesimal proportion, but not its metaphorical resonance. "

Mythical Places

Seems like there should be more of these, but this is a collection of I think most of the pre-renaissance mythical locations that were actually theorized to exist. The list changes as we get into the renaissance, I think - as the age of exploration begins and some of these disappear but new ones get added.

Wanderlust

Collection of 23 of the more notable routes of exploration in imperial, economic and literary history. Would of course be better if there were a hell of a lot more voyages on here. But each voyage has interesting supporting material as well.

The Presidential Award for Aural Fitness

Related to the last link - here's an ongoing project at Aural Fitness to build an archive of songs about the 50 states. As of this posting: Washington, Virginia, Vermont and Utah. Reverse alpha order?

I hate Vermont

"Hey let's move to portland or portland!" Despite or maybe because of the fact that this sometimes sounds like "Leaving on a Jet Plane," I love "I Hate Vermont."

Antipode

I haven't had the chance to delve too far into their archives, but this seems really interesting.
