The spirit photographs of William Hope

Spirit photography courtesy of the UK's National Media Museum.

Picturing the Museum

The "Exhibition Preparation" section is, of course, particularly fascinating.

What will the LHC find?

I'm admittedly somewhat late to the party here, and nowhere on this list will you find "taking a break for a few months because we broke it", but for all I know this is a nice rundown of the sorts of things we might expect to be discovered or confirmed by the LHC.

World’s Columbian Exposition

Set of 97 photos of the Columbian Exposition by the Brooklyn Museum's first fine arts curator, William Henry Goodyear. Mostly of the White City, though there are a few from the midway as well.

The Journal of Urban Typography

Photos of often haphazard type and lettering.

American Life Histories: Manuscripts from the Federal Writers’ Project, 1936 - 1940

"The...collection includes 2,900 documents representing the work of over 300 writers from 24 states....2,000-15,000 words in length, the documents consist of drafts and revisions, varying in form from narrative to dialogue to report to case history."

Wanderlust

Collection of 23 of the more notable routes of exploration in imperial, economic and literary history. Would of course be better if there were a hell of a lot more voyages on here. But each voyage has interesting supporting material as well.

Large Hadron Collider nearly ready

If this thing does birth a small black hole and swallow up the earth, it might just have been worth it just for these pictures.

Hubble Ultra Deep Field

Full-resolution photo taken by the Hubble of a teeny-tiny segment of the sky, which is also of course huge beyond imagining. 11.3 days of exposure, et voila. Just over 100mb of space.

Scientific American Frontiers

Oh, it's on.

Silent World

These photos are fantastic. I think it's their parchment colored backgrounds that really make every one of them seem to take place in a world with no sound at all. Apt titling.

Animals in Human Situations

Maybe the less said about this the better, other than it's sort of amazing.

10 Banned Albums

Davis destroyed 10 banned records and then recorded them playing back. If the photographs correspond to the music playing, its hard to see how some of them still play as recognizably as they do, and for so long. The magic of technology!

Inventing the Internet

How much does Larry Roberts look exactly like Ben Kingsley in Sneakers in this photo?

Where I’m Cooking From

Moriah's collected some of the stuff she eats. Minor master of macro food photography.
