Sunning themselves on a rock in a pond used to install a Lichtenstein.

Cicada Killer

Cicada Killer

Apparently the females use their stings mostly for paralyzing cicadas, which they then lay eggs in and bury (of course), whereas males are aggressive but have no sting. Fun fact: this insect was easily 2" long, if not more.

Cicada Killer

Cicada Killer

This creature had a broken wing, and so was sort of flailing around in the grass at Storm King. Moriah and I had no clue what it was, with guesses ranging from "big fucking wasp" to "alien bee". Turns out a quick google search for "largest bee north america" brings you within a few clicks to the Cicada Killer, which looks just about right. This one did not get named after a cocktail at the time, but I think if I had to, I would probably name her Screwdriver.

Dr. Dragan Dabic Healing from Within: The Ever Increasing Need for Alternative Viewpoints in the Modern World

This is *unreal.* I did a whois, but the registration was private. Site is hosted on dreamhost, though. Also, please note that the email address on the page isn't a direct link, which is an effort to keep spam away. Unreal.

Ruminations on the Borderlands of Cartography

A frank but also sort of whimsical discussion of what does and what does not qualify as a map. I think I largely agree with the author, but I tend to think of what fits inside some category as more of a spectrum-based problem and not a yes-or-no problem.

Too Weird for The Wire

Story of a group of Black federal defendants in federal murder and racketeering cases adopting a nonsensical white supremacist doctrine rejecting the authority of the Federal government as their defense.
