Morningside Park

Geese running wild through the streets of the city.

I still remain hopeful that they’re building a park

I still remain hopeful that they're building a park

The above-ground parking garage next to the building I work in has been leveled over the past few weeks, no doubt to make way for a glorious midtown greenspace.

Signage

Signage

Bar-Be-Cuing is not tolerated

Bar-Be-Cuing is not tolerated

Proscribed activities. I've never actually figured out whether someone putting up a sign like this has any legal recourse when they speak out against what must be totally legal activities (hair braiding?). *Nice* lettering job, though.

Next Train

Next Train

Might bear looking at one of the larger sizes of this shot to see the signage. This is from where E trains are born.

Roaring dunes

Samples of the sound of "singing / roaring / booming" dunes. Very low frequency sound produced by localized dune avalanches, with accompanying explanation, sound samples and historical instances. Amazing.

Dramatic Structure

Quaint analysis. Nice infographic!

Toko

Dutch design agency, does really nice (web-inspired?) print work. Grid heavy, except when it's not.

Satellite image of New York

Working on a map for work, using this as a basis. The high contrast makes it look like most of midtown and the financial district is flooded, when in fact they are not.

World Clock

Watching all the numbers change so quickly is making me really squirrely.

Nikola Tesla

Nice high resolution shot of Tesla at the Library of Congress.

The Road to Clarity

Lengthy profile of the new(ish) roadsign typeface, Clearview. Good slideshow, too.

Stung

Interesting, sort of light read on the current crisis facing pollination-based agribusiness - and everything else that needs pollination, in one way or another, to survive in the U.S.

List of Eponyms

Kio, why not just go straight to the source? I'm somewhat concerned with the "List of human anatomical parts named after people." That seems like maybe we went to far.

World’s Largest Photograph

Site has a blasted Flash interface. To see the world's largest photo, click on "Click here" and then "Gallery" and then look fast because there's an automated slideshow with the photo itself as the first slide. I think you can pause it.

Pick Your Candidate

Still really too early for all this. And there's nothing really comforting in voting by algorithm, especially when it seems like Kucinich is my best choice. Dammit.

Eating the Chili

I am not the largest fan of spicy foods. I get the whole macho factor thing, and that's cool - or is it? Ask this man what he thinks. via subtraction.
