No Aloha

Not to get all livejournal-y, but Last Splash has turned into my album of choice for those moments that I'm feeling really down, not because I find it bouncy and peppy, but because the combination of noise washes and fragile vocals incredibly cathartic.

Explosion in Midtown

Maybe I should be reacting differently to this. But this video is hilarious. From the associated news story: "Men in tailored suits were caught in a lapel-singeing cloud." Glad more people weren't hurt, and I hope the injured pull through.

White Punks on Dope

via nevver. Too bad this wasn't in Drumline.

Forgotten New York Ads

Extensive annotated photo galleries of one of New York's most distinctive features - ancient painted advertisements on the sides of buildings.

The IceCube Concept

Awesome (and huge) diagram of a neutrino telescope being assembled in Antarctica.

Lettermade Gallery Archive

Great collection of photos of decaying signs. Plenty of inspiration to be found.

Fiodor Sumkin

I was reminded of this while browsing typographica.org this evening. Really incredibly detailed and vital drawings.

D_partment

D_partment

South Shore incinerator building. Neil asked me what typeface they were using and I think it looks like Neutra. Does that mean this building was designed by Richard Neutra, or is it a knockoff?
