Nighttime/Anytime (It’s Alright)

"It’s hard not to surrender, but I will dance down thru the alley ways, with one foot in the gutter, take the city as a sister, the nighttime as a lover."

On to You

"The diamond girls say, ‘I’m on to you.’ And the street say, ‘I’m on to you.’ And the night say, ‘I’m on to you.’ And the lovers say, ‘I’m on to you.’"

Naked as we Came

This is oooold. I remember this being a highlight of the free music videos on iTunes, that's how old. But it's awesome. I guess also it helps being a film professor when it comes time to direct your own music video.

The Underdog

"I want to forget how conviction fits / but can I get out from under it? / Can I gut it out of me?"

Squeak the Squirrel

"A squirrel like that's a waste of time, and Squeak has work to do!" A great example of the little known genre of of educational films—Squirrel Porn. More educational and weird shorts here and here.

Operation Ivy

Short subject made by the US Military about the Operation Ivy Bikini atoll hydrogen bomb test. It's at the Internet Archive and so is available in a number of video formats. Sort of via leahb.

O R G

Somewhat cryptic, but an amazing overview of projects. Also they're located only like a block away from my office. Probably I've seen them in Burritoville or Atomic Wings.

Meatpacking, overexposed

Meatpacking, overexposed

The evening's falling action. Gansevoort and Greenwich.

The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp

Just learned today that "Dr. Tulp" was a nickname of the Dutch surgeon Claes Peterszen. According to The Island at the Center of the World, he administered the oath of allegiance to the VOC and the Dutch govt to the first wave of Manhattan's colonists.

Palmcorder Yajna

"Every couple minutes someone says he can't stand it any more / Laugh lines on our faces / Scale maps of the ocean floor"

Not Ideas About the Thing, but the Thing Itself

"He knew that he heard it, / A bird's cry, at daylight or before, / In the early March wind."

The Idea of Order at Key West

"For she was the maker of the song she sang. / The ever-hooded, tragic-gestured sea / Was merely a place by which she walked to sing."
